About Me
Kate Anderson
My training qualifications and experience.
I have a wide, general education and life experience, qualified to degree level and with experience working in a number of varied professions including legal, local authority youth justice and social services, education and community and charitable organisations. I have enjoyed over 30 years working face to face directly with service users and clients, focusing especially on working in person with children, young people and families with a view to supporting them through often challenging and vulnerable circumstances.
I first, personally, experienced the transformative power of the Person-Centred approach when applied by my supervisor during a workplace supervision session which liberated me and left me feeling I could have metaphorically “gone to the moon and back” within the remit of my work role at the time. I wanted to understand more and learn to be able to offer the personal benefits of this approach to others. After having gained a Certificate in Therapeutic Counselling Skills, exploring various methods of talking therapy, I have since qualified as a Person-Centred Pluralistic Counsellor (Advanced Practitioner) and I am a Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP).
Examples of Support I can offer.

My Practice.
In my role as a Person-Centred Pluralistic Counsellor, I will listen to you with compassion and without judgement. It is not my role as a Counsellor to offer my opinion or advice, but, as a facilitator, I hope to work together in relationship with you, in a way that is tailor-made to your needs and wishes, to establish a safe, welcoming space in which you feel heard.
In this safe and spacious environment, it is hoped you will be able to freely explore the issues you are facing, at your own pace, and seek to understand them, and yourself, better. I greatly value your autonomy and my hope is that our time together will enable you to explore and discover your own way to identify, more clearly, those things that may be getting in the way of you being able to experiencing the best life has to offer you and that you may be empowered to choose your own steps towards achieving transformative and long-term, sustainable change where so desired.
All our life experiences contribute towards making us the unique individuals we are. I value every person as a unique human being of equal value with all others, irrespective of any differences. In so recognising your unique qualities and characteristics as a valued human being, I hope our time together will be invaluable in enabling you to reflect and grow in understanding of the influence your past and current life experiences and circumstances have had, and go on having, on you as a person, now, and explore how you may want to achieve any future hopes and dreams you may hold, all according to your wishes and choices. It is your choice how you use our time together and what you choose to bring to the sessions.
Although changing everything you want to change in your life may not be possible for various reasons which may be out of your control, gaining a deeper understanding and perspective may be beneficial in supporting you in the present moment, and in looking forward. I hope you may be empowered in making more beneficial life choices where you are now, and for your future, wherever it may be possible and desirable, and in making any changes, so reducing or removing some of the barriers that are preventing you from experiencing life in greater fulness.
